And . . . I still think Valencia may have gobs of goals in him and just needs the playing time. I think he will do fine in our direct system with crosses coming in from the wings.

Remember this ability -- http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/enner-valencia-of-pachuca-jumps-for-a-header-against-marco-news-photo/476137465

Here he is against 6' 3" Marco Palacios.

Agree with those who point out we still have options, which is remarkable considering that this time last year we had one -- literally one -- fit striker in the entire squad -- Cole. Second choice was Maiga.

The fact that we will lose Sakho and still have Carroll, Valencia, Cole, and Zarate is remarkable.

Plenty of depth in midfield to survive a stretch. We've already been playing Nolan when we shouldn't (so that will remain the same) and not playing Amalfitano when we should (he'll come on in Jan) and we'll have Jarvis off the bench. All one as to do is look at same time last year to see how much worse things could be.

Stain, not likely till later in month as we need to shift some before we have any wage bill spare

We should also expect January reinforcement.

Not worried at all. I think we can still get points without those.

We have practically already avoided relegation and I see no benefit in getting involved in Europe next year to then jeopardize out league position.

Amilfatano, Poyet, Noble, Nolan, Downing,

All capable, could even chuck Morrison into that as well.

We've won games without Song and Kouayte in the side.

why are people panicking for fucks sake? yes its annoying and yes we will miss them, but fuck it. we have good enough players to come in for them.

The good news is Senegal are unlikely to qualify from the group of Death. With Algeria,South Africa and Ghana in their group it's going to be a tough call for Senegal to qualify.
Both Sakho and Kouyate could be available for the Man Utd game on the 8th Feb.

These are still decent sides!

What are we worrying about?

Re: Best starting 11 without the African Players?
I think it depends on how Valencia and Carroll click. I get the impression Valencia prefers playing with another pacey front man who can pull the defence about a bit more. But to lose Sakho and still have Carroll, Valencia, zarate and cole shows how we've strengthened

I hope Jarvis finds some form in jan too - could be a decent opportunity for him

It's still a strong XI whatever way you look at it. Plus it all depends on the fixtures, if they have been kind to us we might still be able to grind out some good results without our star Africans.

I'd start Morgan ahead of Poyet too.
